DIRT WARS UK ROUND 2 MOTION SKATE PARK BRISTOL

Round 2 of the Dirt Wars UK series went off last week end at Motion Indoor Skate Park in Bristol and although most of the riders that attended were 'Dirt only' riders they still managed to transfer from dirt to park with style. Ok so we know that its Dirt Wars UK and not Park Wars UK but we thought we would mix it up a little this year and give the riders a chance to show that they were not only good on the dirt but could also do their ting on the wooden transitions aswell. With a large number of Dirt riders all waiting for the park to clear of scooters and Bmx's and for us to take over the park at 4pm you could see that quite a few of them were a bit nervous about riding, and when a few were asked if they were riding the comp the reply was the same 'not sure yet'. Once all the riders had signed in there was a 60min session for the riders to get their heads together and warm up for the coming qualifing rounds. The Pro/Elite riders mixed it up with the Open/Grassroots guy's and all seemed to be having a laugh trying out different lines and getting their trick bags dialed. Motion is layed out like one big halfpipe with a spine on the left, Jump box in middle and big jump on the right with walls at the back of the transitions at either end of the pipe so you can move across the whole park from spine to quarter and back across to the jump box etc. Once all the riders had got their game on we started of with the Open/Grassroots riders with 3x 1min runs to show what they had. All the riders seemed to be slightly holding back until Jack Peters started pulling the tailwhips out the bag then it all went hetic. Although not up to his usual standard Wig Lewington Booth was throwing 360's over the jump box whilst Joe Wells pulled out the Barhop then continued to flip the middle box which got a nice cheer from the spectators and other riders. Ian Blacks first time at DWUK has certainly made an impression and also a possible contender for the overall title. Ian set out with smooth style pulling barspin to manuals out the mini ramp, Fully clicked turndowns and 360s on the middle box. Freddy Pullman was also out to show what he has in his park skills bag by impressing Judge Rob Newman by pulling Rob's signiture Crankflip to perfection aswell as 360's on the spine and a massive superman. Greg Strange was back for round 2 and unfortunatly greg had his bike stolen in between round 1 and 2 so was riding a friends bike that he had had no time to get used to. Still Greg managed to put on a good show and pulled some flawless 360's over the middle box along with a huge tuck no hander on the big jump. After all the riders had had their runs the top 4 went through to the 15min final jam.   Round 2 Open Qualifiers 1st Joe Wells 2nd Jack Peters 3rd Ian Black 4th Freddy Pullman 5th Greg Strange 6th Sam Lewington Booth 7th Wig Lewington Booth   With 18 Pro Elite riders in the next quallys we had to make the decision of splitting the riders up in to 3 groups of 6 with each group getting a 30min Jam to decide who was going to the final.   In group 1 we had the line up of Chopper (Kona), Chris Smith (Corsair), Daryl Brown (Identiti), Danny Pace (Identiti), Alfie Stevens (Dartmoor) and Phil Aukland (Identiti). Chopper started the round off and was out to show that using the whole park was the way forward by hitting 360's and tobaggans over the spine barspins on the jump box and perfect tailwhips as was Chris Smith with his massive barspin transfers and back to back manuals on the sub boxes. Daryl Brown was doing nothing by small measure's and seemed to be almost doubling the height of the other riders pulling huge 360's over the spine and throwing barspins all over the place. New commer Alfie stevens was going tailwhip crazy pulling them on the jump box and spine aswell as executing smooth 360's. Danny pace set the place on fire pulling a mega front flip over the small middle box and blowing his back tyre up producing the loudest bang that i've heard in years making everyone in the building jump then go mad over Danny's flip. Phil Aukland is a bit of a self confessed park rider but didnt really have the S4P style that he normally brings to the table and crashed out on a massive transfer from one side of the park to the other. Group 2 With Matt White (Mutant), Peran Clemence (Kona), Adam Williams (NS) Ray Samson (DMR), Jack Gear (EZO) and Ryan Maynard Eames (Nookie) set to hit the ramps for group 2 we got under way with Matt Dropping in first. Matt set to work making the park look tiny with his huge airs out the quarters, flat tables over the jump boxes and smooth tailwhips where ever possible. Jack showed that flips could be taken to the ramps aswell as dirt and Adam Williams in true welshy style almost nailed a tailwhip out the top ove the vert wall. Peran was throwing big 360's over the jump box and real smooth tuck no handers whilst Ray Samson flipped the big box and styled it up with no footed cans and tables out the quarters. Ryan Maynard Eames was trying his hardest to pull a few flairs out the bag after throwing down some nice 360's.   Group 3 Last up before the final we had group 3 consisting of Clinton Jhons (Diamondback), Matt Cooper (Cranked365/Ram), Marcel Hunt (Dartmoor), Craig Potter (NS), Blake Samson (Octain One) and Dave Pearce Martin (EZO) and boy were these guys out to show how to mix it up. Clinton threw down the tailwhip tyre taps only to be awnsered back by Blake with a huge superman over the spine. Marcel at this point had managed to stay uninjured and almost pulled a massive flip whip out of nowhere aswell as super clean and smooth tuck no handers and tailwhips. Craig Potter (another self confesed park rider) banged out some real smooth riding and a nice 3whip as did Dave Pearce martin with his 360 on the spine and dumped 3's follwed by huge dumped 3s from Matt Cooper. After all 3 groups had run only 3 from each group progressed on to the final. From Group 1 we had Chopper (Kona), Daryl Brown (Identiti) and Danny Pace. Group 2 Adam Williams (NS), Matt White (Mutant) and Jack Gear (EZO). Group 3 Marcel Hunt Dartmoor) (Marcel was unable to ride final due to injury), Clinton Jhons (Diamondback) and Blake Samson (Octain One).     First up out of the finals we had the Open/Grassroots riders and after waiting for and hour and a half for the pro quallys to finish the guy's were biting at the bit to get there final over with and find out who was on top spot. Jack Peters came out all guns blazing with a mega tailwhip and barspin tail taps whilst Joe wells threw dowwn a massive topside nofooted air out of the quarter. Ian Black was pulling off nice smooth barspins to manual back in and nice smooth truck drivers and to come back at that Freddy worked his way round the park twisting the spine, flipping the box and poping sweet superman's.   After 15 mins of riding hard the 4 were put in order for the podium. 1st Ian Black 2nd Freddy Pullman 3rd Joe Wells 4th Jack Peters   Last up was the Pro/Elite Final and with Marcel Hunt out with a wrist injury the 9 riders were down to 8. we gave the guy's 20 mins to throw down their sickest tricks to decide what order the podium would go in. Adam Williams set the pace pulling a sweet 3whip and back to back tailwhips in the mini ramp whilst Chopper was going crazy high fufanuing the sub box at the back of the park and 360 tyre taping to barspin on the spine. Clinton Jhons was again going tailwhip crazy with whips over the spine and 360 tuck no handers. Matt White styled it up with a tailwhip to tyre tap to barspin out aswell as huge tabled airs out the quarters whilst Daryl Brown pretty much shut the competition down with full use of the park, massive extensions on all his tricks and real smooth executions.   Danny Pace pulled the mega front flip again along with his huge flip x-ups on the big box and Blake showed that riding the Animal Demo rig had paid off and he was comfatable riding wood by banging down a huge downside whip transfer.   After the 20 mins was up the judges banged their heads together and came forth with the top 3.   1st Daryl Brown (Identiti) 2nd Danny Pace (Identiti) 3rd Blake Samson (Octain One)     Edit coming soon from Olly Jelly Media...   Thanks to all that attended DWUK round 2, Motion Skate Park, Our Series Sponsors and The Judges (Andy Thomas, Nicky Madocks, Rob Newman and Brett Cooke).   See you all at round 3 Chicksands Bike Park on Sunday 3rd of July 10.30 sign in...
